Weekend recap - Christmas

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Good morning peeps!! I'm baaaaaack. I know it's been a while since I posted on the blog but I've been super busy with Christmas and all as I'm sure you have been as well. I love this time of year and I'm super charged for the upcoming year too. I'm going to share some of my Christmas with you in pics for this blog post...

As for recovery, the knee seems to be doing better however I'm still going to see a doctor first thing in the New Year. The Jacksonville Marathon was this past weekend and it was kinda bittersweet to hear some of my friends talking about the race and looking at some of their pics wishing I was there too. It's all good though. I know I will recover and come back strong for 2014. I'm on my way now. I did bike 16 miles on Saturday and got in an easy 3 mile Elliptical work out today. I must say it is nice to be back working out even if I'm waaaaay out of shape.. lolol

So here are some pics from my Christmas that I wanted to share with you. I hope you enjoy

Happy Hump Day - Weekend recap

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Good morning peeps!! Happy Hump Day to you!! So I'm a little late for my weekend recap but better late than never. Lolol I had a great weekend even if I didn’t run. Dena is very happy…

On Saturday I got up and went out for a 31 mile ride thru Temple Terrace. It was a great ride and I enjoyed most of if except for the part where this lady pulled out in front of me and I had to slam on the breaks to avoid a collision. I rode about 20 miles before meeting up with Amy at Rowlett Park. She had gone up there for a run. We met up at Rowlett and chilled by the Hillsborough River for a few minutes before I headed back to the house. I wanted to get in another 10 miles or so. I finished off strong and washed my miles down with a delicious Isalean Pro Chocolate shake. Yea!!

Saturday night Amy and I went to the USF vs. Alabama Men’s basketball game. Amy has a friend that got us some great seats for free. Yes!! It was a great game and it really brought back memories of my college basketball playing days. I just wanted to jump out there on the court and get in the game… Oh,  and USF won in the final seconds!!! :)

I so wanted to get out there and run the offense... :)

Amy and I enjoying the game.

Sunday was a nice Church and football watching day. Church was great in the morning with my Spiritual Community, Unity North Tampa. The Bucs won again for the 4th time this year. So all in all it was a good day.

I even got in a 15 mile ride on Monday morning before work. Happy Monday to me!! Still no running… as you all know I have decided not to run the Jacksonville Marathon and instead concentrate on getting my knee healthy. So far so good. I’m not doing any running at all for now. I will be riding until the doctor tells me not too… lolol I’m looking forward to 2014 and really enjoying many races…

That’s all for now. So how was your weekend?? Are you doing anything special this weekend??

Remember to Enjoy the Journey...

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Good morning peeps!! So this isn't really a Fantabulous Friday post since it's not fantabulous news but I needed to go ahead and make it official. Even though what I'm about to say I'm not happy about I know that it's up to me to decide how I'm going to feel about any situation, so I'm going to make this a Fantabulous Friday anyway. Yea!!  :)

After spending the last several weeks trying to figure out what was going on with my knee I have decided to cancel running the Jacksonville Marathon. Although it's a tough decision I know its the right one for me. I've cancelled a marathon before because of an injury and sometimes you just have to bite the bullet. It turns out whatever is going on with my knee is more serious than what I first thought because as of today I still cannot run a mile; actually I can't even run 100 yards without feeling significant pain.

Over the last 3 weeks what I realized though was that I was so consumed with running a great race in Jacksonville that would prepare me for a Boston Qualifier next year that I totally forgot to enjoy the journey. I didn't practice what I preach. I missed out on sooooo many races during the year when I was in great shape and probably could have racked up some PR's!! I realize now that  I lost a whole year of racing preparing for one race that I'm now not going to be able to run.

The one thing I know about life is that life's lessons will continue to repeat themselves until the lesson is learned. One of the highest forms of intelligence is to be able to learn from your mistakes. So I'm taking my lesson and I'm learning from it. I'm shutting it down for this year and getting healthy. I don't know how long it's going to take but I'm going to do whatever I need to do to get myself back out there running again because that's who I am and that's what I love to do...

Racing is what I do

And next year.... watch out because I'm going to be running everything in sight, 5k's,10k's , triathlons, I might even through some trail races in there for good measure!! lolol  No matter what I'm going to truly enjoy racing again in 2014 and if God willing I will be back to grace that start line for the Jacksonville marathon next year even more prepared and ready to smash that Boston Qualifier. Yea!! :)

So have you ever had a major setback or disappointment because of an injury? How did you handle it??

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Good morning peeps!! Well I didn't do much running this weekend. Knee is still feeling sore. What I did get a chance to do is volunteer at Metropolitan Ministries. Metropolitan Ministries is an organization that helps needy families in the Tampa Bay area with food for the holidays. I feel very grateful to work for a company that will allow us to leave work to go and volunteer for this worthy cause. Every year that I do it is a great experience. Here are some pics from the event...

Hope was their theme this year...

Weekend recap - 2 of my OTHER favorite things...

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Goooood morning peeps!! Happy Monday morning to you. Do to the fact that I am nursing a little knee pain  I did not run this weekend and I'm taking today off as well. I do have a BIG 55 mile week planned for this week and I expect to get all of those lovely miles in...

Amy has her first half marathon this weekend so I'm super excited to go cheer her on and support her at the Women's half Marathon in St. Petersburg on Sunday.

As for me my weekend didn't involve running but I still had a lot of fun because it included two of my other favorite things; music and chocolate!! :)  Friday was a nice quiet evening at home with my daughter.  Saturday we went to hang out with my Mother and wound up ordering a pizza from pizza hut. The great part is what we got with the pizza. We ordered the chocolate dipping sticks. OMG!! They were soooooo good!!  If you haven't had them you gotta get 'em... :)

2 tips you must do to get to the marathon start line healthy - Fantabulous Friday

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Good morning peeps!! Happy Fantabulous Friday to ya!!  In today's post I'm going to share with you the two most important things you must do to get to the marathon start line healthy.  Being that I'm getting ready for Jacksonville I really need to being doing these things myself...  Yes I am doing them...:)  So here we go!!

First and foremost you must listen to your body.  Everybody has a training plan and  it's great to have  a training plan to follow but if your body is telling you it's had enough you need to give it a break.
As I'm writing this post I'm dealing with a pain in my knee that just came out of nowhere. I know my body well enough that I ran through the pain today during my 8 mile run. If the pain is still there tomorrow though I will be taking the day off and skip my 5 mile recovery run tomorrow. It's just not worth it to go run tomorrow if it's doing more damage than good. The important thing about a marathon training plan is to be able to complete at least 85-90% of it. If you can do that you're in good shape... Remember listen to your body it's always talking to you. The question is are you listening... :)

Second thing you must do is watch what you put into your body. I haven't always been the heathiest eater. Yes I do love my chocolate... dark chocolate; it's good for the heart... :) Having said that since I've been using Isagenix I have been eating a lot healthier and I can feel the difference in my body.

The  marathoners diet should be about 65%  carbs, 20-25% fats ( unsaturated), and 20-25% protein. So you should be piling up the pasta and brown rice as well as eating lots of fresh fruis and vegetables. In addition; fish is super important. One serving a fish shouls be a mainstay on your table each week for the marathoner.  For me I eat pasta every week and I eat plenty of fruits and veggies. The one thing I strugle with is the fish. I have started substituting that with tuna fish though which still gives you some Omega 3's. Yes!!! :)

So if you can master these 2 tips and get throught 85-90% of your training you should be ready to go on race day and prepared to have an awesome race.

I'll leave you with a quote my friend told me once on a training run as I was dealing with a calf injury.  He said...   "It's better to show up under trained and healthy than to show up over trained and injured." That was some of  the best advice I ever got.

So how is your training going so far?? Are you getting through the majority of it injury free??

Weekend recap - 16 miler and Arts and Crafts Festival

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Goooooooooooooood morning peeps!! First I would be remiss if I didn't say Happy Veteran's day to all the Veterans out there. Thank you for serving and defending our freedoms...

My weekend was great and I'm going to take you through some of it on this weekend recap post. So here we go!!

Friday 11/8/13 - I was off from work so I got up and got in a 6 mile recovery run. It was supper windy out however I really enjoyed this run. I was out in Wesley Chapel where Amy lives and I ran through one of the neighborhoods over there. Beautiful scenery... Washed my miles down with a chocolate Isalean shake.

Did some research and studying for my business during the day on Friday and got a nice little cat nap in as well. Later that night Amy came over and I cooked us a wonderful dinner with baked pork chops, broccoli, brown rice, and muffins with a little honey on top. By the way I discovered this weekend that honey is one of the Best Things Ever!!! I'm just saying... :)

Mr. Honey Bear

Saturday 11/09/13 - I got up early Saturday morning for my long with my running group, The Blue Sharks.  The schedule was 16 miles with 12 at marathon pace.  I met up with Beth Shaw from Discombobulated Running at 5 am to get our morning run on a little earlier than the group start time which is 5:30 am.  Beth had 20 on her schedule . I also shared some of the Isagenix products with Beth and she plans to do a review after using the products. I'm excited to see what she thinks!!  So we were off at 5 am and the first 3 miles were great. Beth and I chatted for a bit and met back up with the group at 5:30 am for the official start. We split off after that and my next 5 miles were ok but not at pace the way I wanted them to go. Once I got out by the airport on Davis Island and the killer wind hit I knew this was not going to be my day. I finished my 16 miles off at an 8:52 pace however that was no where near what I needed to be running for this day. I'm not disappointed with it though I just know I will need to step it up for the next long run to get those pace miles in. After the run I was glad it was over and I didn't have to deal with Mr. killer wind anymore... :)

Running with Isagenix
After my 16 miler, feeling good... :)

So the rest of Saturday was busy for us. Amy ran up at Rowlett Park and she really liked it!! She did 7 miles and was excited to tell me how beautiful she thought the park was when she got back. We're planning a run slash picnic at Rowlett park really soon...

After our runs were done we had two craft shows to attend and a dinner party. I don't know who planned this day out??? First we went to see Amy's Mom at St Timothy's Church craft show where she had a booth there. Amy's Mom makes beautiful jewelry. If you're looking for some great Christmas gifts let me know and I will show you how to get in touch with her. Her shop's name is " The Beaded Lady".

Next stop was the Temple Terrace Arts and Crafts Festival. Its a great event held at a park right off of the Hillsborough river.  Amy and I go to this one every year. They have some really cool exhibitors there. Here are some pics from that event.

Amy and I at Temple Terrace Arts and Crafts Festival

Next stop was a dinner party with friends Saturday night. We had a great time there. Food was delicious. Amy and I made our famous homemade salsa. We left around 9:30 pm though because we were both so tired from our looooooooooong day. Anyways it was a blast!!

The food

Amy and I at " Dinner with a Twist"

Sunday 11/10/13 - Sunday was a relaxing day. Church in the morning with my Spiritual Community, Unity North Tampa. Our group Sounds of Light performed some great tunes including one of my favorites of all time, "Imagine" by John Lennon. What a great song!!

Sunday night Amy cooked a wonderful dinner with baked chicken with garlic and parsley, steamed brocolli and baked potatoes. Peanut Butter chip brownies for dessert. Yea!! :)

And that was my world wind weekend. It was fun and now back to training. I'm taking today off and then back at it tomorrow. The good news is this week is a recovery week for me so the miles won't be too heavy. 43 total miles are scheduled for this week.

So how was your weekend??  What were the highlights for you?

Ode to the Recovery run....

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Happy Hump day peeps!! Wow I can’t believe how fast this training cycle is going by. I’m approaching week 10 already. I will be running in Jacksonville before we know it!!
This week is going well so far. I started the week off with a 14 mile MLR. The run went great and I’m happy where I am in training so far.

Today’s run was a 6 mile recovery run. Actually I have three 6 mile recovery runs this week and then a big 16 miler with 12 miles at marathon pace on Saturday. So as I was looking at my schedule I thought to myself how did I get so fortunate to have 3 recovery runs in a week?? I don’t know but I’m enjoying it!! So this short post is dedicated to the recovery run.

Recovery runs are runs where you want to run at a relaxed paced to loosen your muscles up for your harder workouts during the week. If you can’t hold a conversation during your recovery runs than you’re running too fast. Some people say to run your recovery run 15-25% slower than goal marathon race pace. I tend to stick with this philosophy. Most of my recovery runs are at about a 10– 10:30 pace. I always have to remind myself not to go too fast on recovery runs because I will have a chance to run faster later in the week. This week is a great example of that. I will be taking it easy for the next two days before I unleash on my marathon pace run on Saturday. Yea!!

This is me after this morning’s 6 mile recovery run.

Weekend recap - running in the rain...

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Happy Monday peeps!!  Here to give you a quick weekend recap. Training is going great and I'm feeling strong!! I finished off my 54 miles last week feeling better than ever...   So here we go!!

Friday 11/1/13 - 10 miles with 6 miles at tempo pace. I ran my tempo miles at an 8:30 pace for this run because that is where my body felt comfortable at for the day. With me running my 20 miler on Wednesday I didn't feel the energy to push the pace anymore. Having said that, this run was superb and I felt rejuvenated afterwards!!  Washed these miles down with good ole fashioned chocolate milk. Not as good as my Chocolate Isalean shake but it did the trick...

Saturday 11//2/13 - Saturday's run was supposed to be 12 miles however I only did 7. I must say it was a great 7 mile run though. I did 2 easy warm up miles and then ran the last 5 at about an 8:45 pace. The great thing about this run is that I got caught in a huge thunderstorm on the way back. The last 3 miles I was "running in the rain, just running in the rain..." It was refreshing and fun... :) Washed the miles down with a Chocolate Isalean shake.

Sunday 11/03/13 - I normally don't run on Sundays however since I didn't get all my miles in on Saturday I knew I had to run 5 miles. So I got up early before Church to hit up an easy 5 miler.  Ran these miles at a general aerobic pace; about 9:45. I enjoyed this run because I don't typically run before Church however it was nice to get it in. Washed the miles down with a Vanilla Isalean Shake. And with that run I capped off my 54 miles week. Yea!! :)

After Church Amy and  I joined my Spiritual Community ,Unity North Tampa for our annual picnic out at Lettuce Lake park. We do this every year and it was a ton of fun. Here are some pics from this weekend's event...

Fantabulous Friday - Zen running or something like that... :)

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Happy Friday peeps!! In this addition of Fantabulous Friday I’m going to discuss how cool it is to just run in new places. I love setting my mind free and just letting the run take me wherever it wants to take me. And on my 20 miler on Wednesday of this week I found a gem…

Rowlett park is a huge park in Tampa and for the past 30 years or so I’ve been there plenty of times for family get- togethers and bbq’s and what not. On Wednesday as I was running my 20 miler for some reason the Universe led me over to Rowlett park and what I found amazed me. Rowlett park has a beautiful paved trail ( about 1.5 miles long) that is completely shaded by trees and wonderful views of the Hillsborough River. There are water fountains and bathrooms ever half mile or so. I could not believe how nice it was to run the trail there and I couldn't understand how I have missed this gem for so long???

Oh well needless to say I did about 6 miles or so at the park before heading back home. Now I know of another great park to run in. If you’ve never been to Rowlett Park the address is 2501 River Hills Drive. Tampa, FL. 33604.
Here’s a couple of pics of the beautiful Rowlett park. If you’re runner like me and need a change of scenery this could be a great option for you.

So have you ever just went out for a run and let the run take you wherever it wanted too?? Where did you end up??

That’s all for today. This is TY signing off. As always allow the Universe to work in your favor and be blessed…

Wonderful Wednesday... tough 20 miler!!

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Happy Hump day peeps. Training has been going great so far. Today I’m off from work. Hallelujah!! Of course I worked on Sunday and that’s why I’m off today but I’m not complaining. I’m just going to enjoy it. Just wanted to share my training and how it’s going so far this week. 54 total miles this week so it’s going to be a tough one.

Tuesday 10/29/13 – 7 miles General Aerobic run. Great run. Just enjoyed the miles and took it easy to ease myself back in to this week. Washed the miles down with an Isalean Pro Chocolate shake. Yum!

Wednesday 10/30/13 – Today’s run was tough.. Decided to do my 20 miler today since I knew I wouldn't have the time to do it this weekend and I paid for it. I wouldn't recommend doing 18 miles on Saturday and then 20 miles three days later; not a good look. :) I started out taking it easy however the wheels fell off at mile 15. The last five miles were a run/walk effort. Oh well I will take the 20 miles anyway and live to run another day... I took an E + energy shot before I started to get me focused and ready and washed my miles down with 2 Isalean shakes. One chocolate and one vanilla. Yea!! :)

Yea this was me today....

Weekend recap Tedx Tampa Bay

To learn more about Isagenix and how to make your own health and wealth transformation please click on my website below.

Wow what a great weekend I had. So let’s get right to it. First and foremost I was woefully wrong on my prediction for Friday. If you remember from this post I thought Amy was taking me to the beach in Venice… Well that didn’t happen.
However we did something even more amazing. We attended TEDx Tampa Bay. Yea!! For those of you not familiar with TEDx here’s the run down. Directly from the official page…
At TEDx events, a screening of TED Talks videos -- or a combination of live presenters and TED Talks videos -- sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
The content and design of each TEDx event is unique and developed independently, but all TEDx events have several features in common.
  • TED's celebrated format: A suite of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations and performances (given live, or through TED Talks from TED.com) on a wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration and wonder -- and to provoke conversations that matter
  • TED Talks videos: A minimum of two pre-recorded talks from the acclaimed TED Talks video series (these talks are available free on TED.com)
  • Bias-free programming: Lack of any commercial, religious or political agenda

Here's a pic of Amy and I hanging our before the show...
Amy and I in front of the Palladium pre event.

The event had so many diverse speakers and I truly enjoyed them all. To name a few standouts I must say the 16 year old, Abigail Harrison who is going to be an Astronaut was one of them. She was so poised and gave a great presentation about following your dreams.

The Touch group from USF who are a full band made up of only Ipads. They rocked!!

Dr. Csilla Ari who spoke about preserving the Manta Rays. I learned a lot about Manta Rays. They are amazing animals. They can change color daily. Did you know that??? :)

Tracy Locke, from Tampa Bay Bloggers gave a great presentation on her 12 month experiment on growing without growing. Great quote she used from her daughter who told her that her day was made every day when she wakes in the morning. Very Powerful!!

The smooth sounds of "The New Math" Great music with a truly unique sound...

The New Math rocking the stage.

The drum circle presentation by Drum Connection Tampa Bay was the best!! Great presentation by these 3 ladies. Katherine Robinson and Sally Robinson along with the Grandmother as well. Three generations of drummers in the family. Awesome!!   Somehow I ended up on stage with them.. How did that happen??? Lolol

I must say it was the most fun ever and I have aspirations to be in the next TEDx Tampa Bay. Look out!! Congrats to all the presenters. Awesome job!!

Here are some more pics from the event.

The time is NOW...

Me ready to get started

Before the event

As for training I had an absolutely wonderful 18 mile long run on Saturday. 18 miles at an 8:48 pace. Weather was great although a bit windy. I’m really feeling confident about my training so far and things are clicking and going in the right direction. I took an E+ energy shot before the run and washed the miles down with 2 chocolate Isalean shakes.

So how was your weekend?? Have you ever been to a TEDx event??
